SURAT: Congress MLA from Vansda, Anant Patel, along with 10 others, was booked by police on Sunday in Navsari for allegedly violating various conditions during a public rally held on Saturday. Out of 22 conditions on which the rally was given permission, the accused did not follow five.
Police booked Patel and his associates for allegedly using loudspeakers in public places, continuing the rally after the permissible time, and making a gathering of people more than the permissible limit in government office. The rally was organised by Congress and a large number of tribal people from Navsari participated in it. It was addressed by Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot.
The rally was organised with a demand for actions against BJP leaders who were involved in the attack on Patel in Khergam on October 8. Despite police complaints, police are yet to arrest the accused.
On October 8, Patel was going in his vehicle when around 50 people allegedly attacked and injured him. Patel sat on a dharna at the spot after which his supporters from the nearby areas joined him. It led to violent protest and the crowd resorted to arson. The crowd torched a shop belonging to one of the accused and damaged police and fire brigade vehicles.
