Berhampur: Ahead of the NAAC team’s three-day visit to Berhampur University starting November 23, the authorities have undertaken a campus beautification drive. “The major work of the campus beatification is scheduled to be completed by November 15-much ahead of the visit of the NAAC team, said Geetanjali Dash, vice-chancellor of the university. The team will assess the university’s performance.
“We want to give a complete facelift to the campus by launching a beatification drive with an investment of around Rs 40 lakh,” said the vice-chancellor. “We have I love Berhampur Univerity sugnage, LED floodlights, water fountains, among others. Similarly, the sculptures of Olive Ridley turtles and dolphins have also been installed, said Laxmidhar Rout, coordinator of the campus beautification committee.
Besides, bushes are being cleaned on the campus. “Glow signboards against ragging, gender equality, tobacco-free campus are also installed near the electricity poles,” he said. The old statue of Upendra Bhanja, after whom the university campus is named (Bhanja Bihar) has also been renovated with a pedestal and lighting at one of its main gates, he added.
The landscaping of its small lakes is also going on. “In the second phase of the beautification drive, the university plans connect all the lagoons for free flow of water,” Rout said. There are at least eight small lagoons inside the campus. The university has established eight roof-top rainwater harvesting structures with an investment of Rs 31 lakh, sources said.
