Tamil Nadu: Police search houses of ISIS sympathisers in delta districts

TRICHY: In the wake of the car blast in Coimbatore, the central region police have started searching the houses of suspected ISIS sympathizers in the delta districts.
Inspector general of police, central zone, Santhoshkumar told TOI on Monday that police searched the houses of 12 people in Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Thanjavur in the zone. "They were supposed to be ISIS sympathisers. We searched their houses. Cell phones, tablets, and pen drives were seized," IGP Santhoshkumar told TOI.
The searches were carried out by Tamil Nadu police as their own initiative, while the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the investigation into the car bomb blast at Kottaimedu in Coimbatore district on October 23.
On Saturday, Tiruvarur district police carried out searches at the residences of Azharuddin, Sharjith, Indiyas on Muthupettai Road and the house of Rizwan of Jamaliar street in Tiruvarur district. Police searched the houses of two people at Nagapattinam on Sunday.
In Trichy city, a police team led by commissioner of police (CoP) G Karthikeyan seized 10 abandoned cars and two bikes from the city in the session's court and Gandhi market police station limits on Thursday. Some of the cars were found to have been parked for more than a year. "Notice will be issued to them to submit papers to claim the cars. The unclaimed cars will be disposed of," CoP told TOI.
