Carbon dioxide leaks in Ludhiana factory, four workers faint due to suffocation

LUDHIANA: At least four factory worked got unconscious due to suffocation when carbon dioxide (CO2)leaked in a factory in Giaspura area of Ludhiana's Sahnewal on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred in an oxygen manufacturing unit when a canter of carbon dioxide reached the factory. The officials said that the safety valve of the canter got damaged somehow which caused the leakage.
Panic gripped the area after the incident following which the police, health department team and fire brigade reached the spot. The nearby factories were also vacated by the administration.
Assistant commissioner of police South Vaibhav Sehgal said, “The safety valve of the canter containing carbon dioxide got damaged which causes the leakage of the gas. Four factory workers suffered suffocation and fainted. However some other workers opened the oxygen gas cylinders to control the situation. The victim factory workers have been admitted to the hospital and are stable now.”
The ACP said that the situation is under control.
