GURUGRAM: The PWD is planning to seek exemptions for some of its projects that're nearing completion at a time restrictions under GRA have put a stop on construction activities.
Among the projects that will be hit by the ban include the revamp and upgrade of the Atul Kataria Chowk and Mahavir Chowk. Already delayed by more than a year each, officials said they could complete the projects if given a few weeks more. At Atul Kataria Chowk, where an underpass is under construction, PWD officials said they needed only "15 to 20 days" to complete the work. "We were expecting this underpass to be ready by the middle of October, but the rain earlier this month delayed the work. It now needs only 15 to 20 days to be ready. We will apply for an exemption to the agency concerned since this project is almost complete," said a senior PWD official.
An underpass at Mahavir Chowk is also ready, but commuters can't use it as the project is awaiting an inauguration by a "VIP". An elevated walkway at the junction is under construction, and it is "4 to 5 months" away from completion. PWD officials said they would seek an exemption for the walkway too.
Another key project that is likely to take a hit is the revamp of the 5.6km stretch between Rampura Chowk and Pataudi road. "We will seek permission to at least re-carpet the stretch and cover up the potholes," a GMDA official said.
