Inter-varsity tourneys in run-up to hockey World Cup in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Ahead of Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 in Odisha, the state universities will hold inter-university competitions (hockey) between November and January. Besides the hockey tournaments, universities will hold quiz, poster and debate competitions on hockey only.
Sources said the hockey tournaments and competitions will sensitise college and university students about the game and set a mood for hockey ahead of the World Cup.
A meeting will be held on Monday to finalise the dateline/schedule of the hockey tournaments. While Sambalpur University will host the men’s inter-university competitions, Rama Devi Women’s University here will hold the women’s inter-university competitions.
Pabitra Mohan Nanda, coordinator of the inter university hockey competitions and deputy director in higher education department, said 13 state public universities will hold college-level hockey tournaments and select the best 18 players for university men’s and women’s teams.”
