Kanpur: Additional sessions judge Pramod Kumar on Friday convicted two brothers identified as Virendra Dwivedi and Braj Kishore Dwivedi to life imprisonment and with a fine of Rs 35,500 on each for committing a murder.
The court observed in its order that if the accused failed to pay the fine, then they have to undergo another six months term in jail. Out of the fine amount, Rs 30,000 be given to the legal heirs of the deceased as damages, the court ordered.
The defence counsel had pleaded that as the case did not come under the ambit of rarest of rare cases, and that the accused had small kids and nobody was there to look after them, therefore they should be punished with a minimum sentence. On the other hand, ADGC Sushil Kumar Pandey demanded a maximum sentence as the accused had committed a gruesome act. According to ADGC, one Rajesh Kumar in his complaint stated that he had married his sister to Virendra Dwivedi of Gangaganj Panki on May 14, 2003.
