Tumakuru: Rowdy cutting birthday cake hacked to death

TUMAKURU: A 32-year-old rowdy was hacked to death by a group of men while he was celebrating his birthday near Hosahalli in Tiptur taluk of Tumakuru district.
Diwakar alias Dichchi (head-butt) Diwa had gone to his friend's house to celebrate his birthday. While cutting a cake, a gang of 5-6 men carrying hockey sticks and machetes attacked him and sped away in a vehicle.
A severely injured Diwakar was shifted to the taluk government hospital and later referred to Hassan district government hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Tumakuru superintendent of police Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad said Diwakar had attacked one Mohan in Honnavalli two years ago. Mohan, however, had escaped and a case of attempt to murder was registered in Honnavalli police station.
The officer said Mohan and his gang are suspected to have killed Diwakar in a revenge attack.
Diwakar faced several cases of murder, attempt to murder, and dacoity in Tumakuru and Bengaluru Rural districts. tnn
