YAVATMAL: The Yavatmal rural police team nabbed an absconding murder accused from a lodge at Adilabad of neighbouring Telangana on Friday. On interrogation, accused Arif Ali Abid Ali (40), a resident of Indira Nagar of village Bhosa on the city outskirts, admitted to the crime.
On September 6, 2022, the dead body of a woman was found in the nearby village Sawargad. Since the woman was unidentified, police registered a case of accidental death and the body was sent for post mortem. On September 12, an old woman turned up at the police station and lodged a complaint that the deceased was her daughter and she was murdered by Arif Ali.
The police filed an FIR under section 302 of IPC against the fleeing accused. Though the police searched in Amravati, Nagpur and Pusad, they could not trace Ali. In the meantime, SP Dr Pavan Bansod received a tip that the fleeing accused is hiding in a lodge at Adilabad and runs a gambling den with the help of a few persons. The Yavatmal police reached Adilabad in plain clothes, traced the lodge and confirmed the information about the kingpin of the gambling den.
They then raided the gambling site and took the kingpin into custody under the leadership of API Amol Dhokne. They brought him to Yavatmal and on preliminary interrogation he confessed to having committed the cold blooded murder. Police arrested Arif Ali under section 302 of IPC. Further investigation is being carried out by PSO Kishor Junghare under supervision of LCB chief Pradeep Pardeshi.
