VADODARA: A major accident was averted at the state-run SSG hospital on Thursday night when sparks started flying from an electricity meter. Around 35 children had a narrow escape.
As sparks began to fly from the meter located outside the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the paediatric department, the hospital witnessed panic among relatives of the children admitted at the intensive care ward. The fire was reported at around 10pm, according to fire department officials.
The hospital staff and parents shifted the children, including some teenagers, from the NICU located on the second floor of the paediatric ward number 17 to the general ward.
Soon fire department officials arrived at the spot.
