THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Plus Two student of Government Higher Secondary School for Girls, Cotton Hill, was allegedly denied medical care while writing an examination on Friday.
Education minister V Sivankutty, who visited the student at her house, has asked the general education director to probe into the incident and submit a report within a week.
Earlier, the mother of the student had given a complaint to the minister.
The student developed symptoms of an allergy while writing an examination on Friday and she informed this to her teachers.
However, the teachers said that permission cannot be given for medical care during the examination.
According to her parents, she was allowed to take medical care only after the exam.
The girl student, a national
badminton player, has an allergic disorder. There were instances where she felt breathlessness in minutes after developing the symptoms of the disorder.
“Doctors have recommended her to seek immediate medical care, if a symptom of the disorder, such as closure of nostril, developing pimples, etc starts appearing,” said Bismi Krishna, mother of the student.
However, the principal of the school claimed ignorance about the health issue of the child.
“Had there been any issue, the student’s parents should have informed us in advance. Since she is a national player, she hardly comes to school and we were not aware of her health issues,” said the principal of the school, V Greeshma.
The PTA association of the school also ruled out any deliberate attempt from the school authorities in denying medical care to the student.
