Uttar Pradesh: Peeved over ‘harassment’, jail inmate consumes hair dye

KANPUR: A 32-year-old jail inmate lodged in Mahoba jail allegedly consumed poison on Saturday afternoon.
It was when his condition deteriorated, the jail staff admitted him to the district hospital, where the doctors declared his condition to be out of danger. The inmate has accused the jail staff of harassment.
Jamal Mansoori, a native of Chhatarpur district (Madhya Pradesh), who is serving a ten-year jail term, is lodged in the district sub-jail for he last three years.
He alleged that following his torture by the jail personnel, he consumed poison. On the other hand, jailor Shiv Murat Singh said that the prisoner, who was moving from one barrack to another, was reprimanded by jail staff after which he consumed the chemical `henna-dye', which worsened his condition. When asked how the inmate had procured the hair dye inside the jail, the jailor said that it would be investigated, and whoever is guilty, action will be taken against him.
