CM making half-baked assurances on drug menace: TMC
Panaji: The Pramod Sawant-led BJP government is making “half-baked assurances” about its will to tackle the drug menace in the state, said Trinamool Congress on Saturday. TMC said that instances of seized narcotics going missing from the evidence room proves that the chief minister is trying to mislead Goans about the crackdown on drugs.
TMC’s media coordinator Trajano D’Mello also took a dig at agriculture minister Ravi Naik who had vowed to initiate an inquiry into the disappearance of 24 kgs of drugs in 2010, and IT minister Rohan Khaunte who claimed that drugs were easily available in Porvorim.
“The chief minister’s recent statement which blames the migrant labourers and foreigners for the drug menace is to mislead the people of Goa,” said D’Mello. “The BJP has been ruling in Goa since 2012 and ever since we find the nexus of drug mafias with local politicians and police flourishing. If the Anti Narcotics Cell is doing a good job then how come substance abuse has penetrated remote villages.”
Trajano said that BJP leader Sonali Phogat’s murder also proves that drugs are easily availble.
He also pointed out that the BJP legislators had refused to sign the House Committee report on the nexus between politicians and drug dealers.
