88 govt primary teachers to be hired on contract
Panaji: As government primary schools in the state are facing an acute shortage of teachers, due to retirement of many in recent times, the state education department has issued advertisement to fill up 88 posts on contract basis for now.
In recent times, there have been two cases reported of a villager and in another case an education inspector having to conduct classes due to lack of a teacher in the remote schools of Sanguem taluka.
First due to financial austerity measures and later due to the election code of conduct being in force in Goa, the recruitment process of appointing 145 government primary school teachers could not be completed. In the meantime, several superannuation of teachers led to vacancies. To make up for the shortage, some teachers were deputed to remote schools as replacement, but some refused to serve in the remote locations.
“Selected candidates shall be required to join immediately. After recruitment, if candidate discontinues working within the minimum notice period of one month, his/her one month salary shall be forfeited,” the notice for recruitment states.
Now, the walk-in interview to appoint the 88 teachers on contract basis has been scheduled from November 7 to 9.
Twelve teachers each for Bardez taluka and Ponda taluka, ten each for Tiswadi and Sattari taluka, nine for Dharbandora, eight for Quepem, seven for Salcete, six for Bicholim, five each for Pernem and Canacona, three for Sanguem and one for Mormugao are being hired.
Candidates up to the age of 45 will be eligible to apply.
“A consolidated salary of Rs 39,015 per month will be paid to the government primary school teacher on contract basis upon selection,” states the notice from the directorate.
