MUMBAI: A Vasai police constable is absconding along with a woman whom he introduced as his girlfriend, after being accused of raping the wife of his friend in Nalasopara last month.
The Nalasopara police on October 18 registered a case of rape and unnatural offences against constable Rahul Londhe and his 'girlfriend' Priya Upadhyay. The complainant woman and her husband were friends of Londhe and Upadhyay and often met at each other's homes. In the police complaint, Londhe and Upadhyaya have been shown as residents of the same address at Nilemore in Nalasopara (West) where the alleged crime took place between September 23 and 24.
The woman, employed with a private firm in Mumbai, said in her complaint that on the day of the crime she had called up Londhe and Upadhyay to tell them about her fight with her husband over his drinking binge with friends. Londhe and Upadhyay, both in their 30s, asked the woman to come to their home. When she reached the flat, they offered her drinks. She alleged that a few hours later, Londhe and Upadhyay forced down two to three glasses of liquor down her throat. She suspects that her drinks were spiked. While she was dazed, she recollected Londhe and Upadhyay undressing. While Londhe had sex with her, Upadhyay too abused her sexually, the women said in her statement.
More than 24 hours after the crime, they dropped her home. She told her husband about the incident. He confronted Londhe, who threatened them, she said in the complaint. They finally filed an online complaint. Police said Londhe and Upadhyay are absconding and a search has been launched.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court's directives on cases related to sexual assault)
