GURUGRAM: A 24-year-old youth has been arrested over an objectionable post on social media, police said on Friday.
The post actually came to the notice of constable Pravesh Kumar of the Gurugram police's cyber team. Cops swung into action as the post "has the potential to disturb the communal harmony".
Originally from UP, the accused,
Amir Khan, has been living in Shakti Nagar area with his family for many years. He owns a mobile repair shop near Pataudi Chowk.
During interrogation, the accused told cops that he had received the post on social media and that he had no intention to hurt anyone’s religious sentiment.
An FIR was filed at Shivaji Nagar police station against the accused on October 26 under IPC sections 295A (outraging religious feelings of any class) and 504 (intentionally insults, and thereby gives provocation to any person, intending or knowing it to be likely that such provocation will cause him to break the public peace).
“We have seized his mobile phone. He was arrested on Wednesday. Khan was produced in a court the next day that remanded him to judicial custody," said ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan.
