Nine people booked under anti-conversion law in Meerut

MEERUT: Nine people, including three women, have been booked for allegedly attempting to convert 400 people to Christianity by force in slum area of Mangatpuram locality under Brahmapuri police station of Meerut on Thursday evening, police said. The FIR has been registered under The Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion Act, 2021.
A senior police officer said that 100 people from Mangatpuram visited senior superintendent office, Meerut on Thursday and alleged that some people were forcing them to convert to Christianity.
The officer said that the locals including Vikrant Kumar, Shakar, Salochan, Semlal, Kismati and Kashmir said that a team of 10 people from Delhi helped them during lockdown due to Covid-19 in the year of 2020. These people provided them with food as well as gave them money during Covid-19 crisis.
The locals filed a complaint alleging that Chhabili aka Shiva, Binwa, Anil, Sardar, Nikku, Basant, Prema, Titali, and Reena asked them to visit a makeshift church in the locality. They allegedly asked them to remove the pictures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses from their homes.
Circle officer, Brahmapuri, Brijesh Kumar said that the FIR has been registered against nine persons under Section 3 and 5 (1) of The Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021. Further investigation is on.
So far, no one has been arrested in this connection.
Moreover, BJP Meerut city unit secretary Deepak Sharma said, “Strict action should be taken against those who forced people for conversion.”
Hindu Jagran Manch’s Sachin Sirohi also visited Mangatpuram and demanded action.
Police have also recovered a register carrying the name of 150 locals who were allegedly being asked to convert to Christianity.
