Bhubaneswar: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday said the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government no more enjoys the people’s trust and predicted a landslide victory for the
BJP in the November 3 Dhamnagar byelection.
Taking part in roadshows in various parts of Dhamnagar during his two-day campaigning, Dharmendra said the BJD had resorted to misinformation to influence the bypoll results. “Women and youth of Dhamnagar will give a befitting reply to them. The historic land with immense contribution to India’s freedom struggle will create new history for a new beginning in Odisha,” Dharmendra said, reminding how nine freedom fighters had been shot dead by the police at Saheed Nagar in Lunia village in 1942.
Dharmendra, with BJP nominee Suraj Surbanshi on his side, took part in roadshows and padayatras at Saheed Nagar, Dobal Bazaar, Asurali and Dhamnagar township. “The people of Dhamnagar have affection and sympathy for deceased MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi and see him in his son Suraj. Bishnu bhai’s popularity remains intact,” the Union minister said.
Countering Dharmendra’s statement as one meant to enthuse the sagging morale of BJP cadres, BJD Bhadrak district observer Pranab Balabantray said there is no confusion in anyone’s mind that peoples faith in CM Patnaik has only been increasing and that the BJD is way ahead of its rivals. “Women are particularly very excited to vote for BJD’s Abanti Das,” Pranab said,.
With 48% of the total 2.38 lakh voters being women, both BJP and BJD are trying hard to get their support. Union minister Bishweswar Tudu and BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra also campaigned for the party while several BJD MLAs took part in roadshows. Apart from visiting door to doors, Sambit addressed a public meeting at Sahantarpur village, urging people to vote for the BJP.
