COIMBATORE: Green cover would be improved on the banks of all the water bodies developed by the Coimbatore Corporation under the Smart Cities Mission, said corporation commissioner M Prathap on Saturday.
Prathap and mayor Kalpana Anandakumar launched a tree plantation drive on the banks of the Periyakulam in Ukkadam. A total of 250 trees would be planted there.
Similar tree plantation drives will be taken up on the banks of waterbodies like the Valankulam, the Selvampathy, the Krishnampathy, the Selvachinthamani and the Kurichi which were developed under the Smart Cities Mission.
The mayor and the commissioner handed over uniforms and personal hygiene kits to 70 conservancy workers at an event held at Ukkadam ward office. Uniforms would be given to 2,306 conservancy workers.
