GURUGRAM: With the air quality deteriorating, MCG on Friday constituted a dust control and management cell to ensure that dust control measures are implemented to combat air pollution.
The cell has five members and is headed by MCG commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja.
The cell will identify hotspots prone to dust pollution so that specific measures are implemented on the ground. It will also have to be ensured to augment the capacity of mechanised road sweeping and sprinkling of water. The cell will also monitor road maintenance and ensure greenery of central verges.
The commissioner said that although the cell has been constituted, the joint commissioners and executive engineers will have to monitor and implement the dust control measures in their jurisdiction. The officials said that the cell will convene regular meetings to review the measures implemented on ground.
The official said that the cell will also have to ensure scientific disposal of dust collected at designated sites, repairing and laying of roads in a way that these roads are swept mechanically. “The cell has been constituted for implementation and enforcement of dust control measures. The government agencies will be successful in implementation only when the residents cooperate with us. The construction sites should get registered and residents should not engage in any such activity which accentuates air pollution. The residents should take the lead to combat air pollution,” said Subhash Yadav, nodal officer, MCG’s environment and sustainability wing. On Friday, the MCG teams issued six challans amounting to Rs 1.4 lakh. The civic body has issued 71 challans amounting to Rs 11.5 lakh since October 1 when GRAP kicked in.
