In light of the rising hostilities between Moscow and the NATO countries over Russia's expanding military buildup along the Ukrainian border, India recommended its citizens there on February 15 to temporarily leave that nation.

Students from Rajasthan who returned from Ukraine before the Centre issued a warning urging them to leave the country in advance of the Russian invasion would be reimbursed for their airfare. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has approved a proposal to this effect, a government statement said on Saturday.

In light of the rising hostilities between Moscow and the NATO countries over Russia's expanding military buildup along the Ukrainian border, India recommended its citizens there on February 15 to temporarily leave that nation.

Students who returned after the alert was published were paid for their airfares by the Rajasthan government.

The Rajasthan government will now cover the airfare costs of students who returned to India between February 1 and 14, the announcement states.

According to the statement, the Finance Department has already granted Rs 50 lakh for this use.

On February 24, the military of neighbouring Russia invaded Ukraine.
