THANE: In an unique initiative to keep engineers and contractors updated and involve them into work of road making and filling potholes, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) on Friday conducted a workshop for them at KDMC headquarter.
In the workshop, experts shared information and gave presentation about how to make quality roads and fill potholes amid changing weather conditions and what new technology has come to build quality roads.
The workshop was guided by Ram Kanikar, the former superintending engineer of the state government during which all engineers of KDMC and contractors were present.
City engineer Arjun Ahire of KDMC who organised the workshop said, "To update our engineers working on site we had organized workshop through which the engineers were given information about what work should be done by the engineers on the actual site while making new roads and filling potholes."
Ahire said that chief minister Eknath Shinde is keeping an eye on ensure that the roads in the state, including Kalyan-Dombivli, are of good quality. In Kalyan-Dombivli, the road base has been damaged due to heavy rains.
Ahire added that there are 370 km of roads within the municipal limits. "There were potholes on this road due to heavy rain. Complaints were frequently coming from the citizens, and during Diwali, the civic body implemented a campaign - 'KDMC on duty 24 hours'.
Under this campaign, 70 percent of pothole filling work has been completed and the remaining 30 percent pothole filling work is still remaining, and that will also be completed soon.
Ahire assured that the standard of roads will be maintained during filling potholes in future.
