PMC launches cleanliness campaign at Yamuna ghats ahead of Chhath festival
Prayagraj: Acting upon the complaint of Yamuna Putra Purohit Kalyan Sewa Samiti (Brahman Ghat Sangh) about filth and garbage being dumped on the ghats of Yamuna river ahead of Chhath festival, a team of Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday took out a massive cleanliness campaign and removed filth, garbage and heap of soils with the help of mini JCB and Pokland machine a day before the beginning of Chhath festival.
Sarvesh Mishra, president of the samiti told TOI, “Till Wednesday, there were heap of garbage, filth, mud and soil lying unattended on the ghats of river Yamuna bank where scores of devotees arrive to take holy bath during Kartik month.”
He, however, said, “Samiti members have submitted a memorandum to authorities of PMC last week following which, Municipal commissioner and Upper Municipal commissioner visited the spot and assured to take up a cleanliness campaign ahead of the chhath festival.”
On Thursday noon, the PMC employees, armed with Pokland machine and mini JCB arrived on ghats and took out the cleanliness drive.
Mishra, meanwhile, said, “Around 5,000 to 7,000 devotees are expected to arrive Yamuna bank ghats to perform Chhath puja rituals on October 30 and 31. For that, the samiti members and office bearers were busy in completing all the preparations with an aim that devotees should not face unwanted troubles and inconvenience.”
The samiti members are also coordinating with police and district administration to ensure smooth passage to the devotees.
Noted religious scholar Amitabh Gour says, “This year, the festival of Chhath festival will begin on October 28 across the country..”
