Coimbatore: The state government is not disclosing complete details about the car blast in front of Sangameswarar temple at Kottaimedu, Puthiya Tamilagam (PT) founder K Krishnasamy said on Thursday.
The government, as well as the police department, must be transparent about the materials seized from the crime scene, he told reporters. “While claiming that the blast was triggered because of two cylinders, why is the police department not showing the remains of the cylinders? The cylinders could have been supplied by some agency to the arrested men. Even though this case is now handled by the NIA, police must continue the probe to find more leads to nab the mastermind,” he said.
The incident has cast a pall of fear over the district, Krishnasamy said and urged the state government to establish an anti-terrorist squad with Coimbatore as its headquarters to curb such attacks. “A combing operation should be carried out across the district to expedite the ongoing probe.”
Except for a few political parties, major parties including DMK did not condemn the incident, the PT leader said. “A short-term probe led by a judge should be carried out to find why such incidents happen only in Coimbatore. Terrorists must be dealt with an iron hand and should be eradicated from society,” he added.
