Mohali: The
juvenile accused of being a part of the May 9 rocket propelled grenade (RPG) attack on the intelligence headquarters at Mohali has told cops that he was lured with a Rs 9-lakh offer for “sitting in the car to fire a cracker”, according to Mohali police sources. He also revealed that he was in the car when the grenade was launched, but he never knew that the device in the vehicle was an RPG launcher.
The accused told the police that he comes from a very poor family, and that he was to pay part of the promised amount to his brother to start a business. His father is a part-time driver and the family has to sometimes make do with a single meal in a day. He is currently lodged in a juvenile home in Hoshiarpur as per court orders.
The juvenile was arrested by the Delhi Police’s operation cell. Punjab Police’s counter-intelligence wing, in a joint operation with a central agency and ATS Maharashtra, also apprehended Charat Singh, the main accused in the RPG attack case, from Mumbai recently.
On the disclosure of Charat, Punjab Police identified Syed Mohammad Touseef Chisty alias Chinky of Ajmer, Rajasthan, and Sunil Kumar alias Kala, who were arrested from Ajmer and Ropar, respectively, and sent on police remand. Apart from an AK-56 Rifle, 100 cartridges and a pistol were recovered from them.
