GHAZIABAD: A 32 year-old man was arrested by Ghaziabad police after a gunfight on Friday early morning. The accused was wanted in a parking brawl case in which a 35 year-old national-level wrestler was killed.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Kallu Pandit alias Chravjeevi Sharma, a resident of Rajpur village in Loni under jurisdiction of Tila Mor police station.
Around 9pm on Tuesday night, Arun Singh, the son of a retired Delhi Police inspector, and two of his friends had left the dhaba, when he saw that his car was blocked by another parked right next to it. Arun called out the car’s owner, who was also in the dhaba with a group. Their exchange snowballed into a spat and a clash between the two groups, leading up to the brutal murder.
The video of the brawl, captured on mobile by a passerby, was widely circulated on social media.
Gyanendra Singh, SP City-2 told TOI that the accused was arrested late night on Thursday from Karan Gate. The accused was identified by the police with the help of the viral video in which he was wearing yellow t-shirt and seen smashing the face of the victim with bricks.
"During interrogation he said that a fight took place between him and Arun over parking. After murdering him, he hid the celerio car in a forest near Hindon bridge in Farukh Nagar," he said.
"A team of police had gone to the said place to recover the car along with Pandit. But Pandit snatched the pistol from Subhash Kumar, sub-inspector and he brandished the pistol on one of the constable. Later, he pushed and fled from the spot. During combing, when police surrounded him, he started firing on the police and during cross firing one of the police bullet hits his leg. After that we arrested him and sent to hospital for medical attention and now he is stable," SP said.
"Pandit has a criminal history and he was arrested by Sahibabad police in 2016 as well under the section of arms act and attempt to murder. During interrogation, he also told police that two more people were involved in the murder of Arun. Two police teams have been sent to nab the other two accused," SP said.
