Bokajan traders clash with KAAC tax officials
Guwahati: A clash broke out between the tax department officials of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and local traders in Bokajan on Thursday, when the former reportedly approached the latter for trade licences during a routine survey.
Four persons have been picked up by police for interrogation.
The KAAC tax department team was allegedly manhandled by the traders at a market in Sukanjan locality of Bokajan.
SP (Karbi-Anglong) Sanjib Kumar Saikia said, “During the altercation, the groups reportedly clashed with each other. However, our team along with the CRPF jumped into action and rescued the KAAC tax team.”
The SP said, “The officials were approaching the traders for preparing trade licences.”
“Some of the traders became aggressive and allegedly manhandled the officials,” added SP Saikia.
Sources informed that an official from the tax department and a civilian who tried to stop the fight sustained minor injuries.
