Khunti hockey turf gets FIH certification
Ranchi: The newly laid astro-turf at Khunti Birsa College ground is now eligible to host national and international level hockey tournaments, Jharkhand government said in a statement.
The government claimed that the hockey pitch has received necessary clearances from the International Hockey Federation (FIH). “After the FIH’s certificate, the turf is capable of hosting national and international level tournaments,” it read.
The turf is the third in the state to get FIH certification after the Astroturf hockey stadium in Ranchi’s Morhabadi and the Astroturf stadium in Simdega.
“Along with Simdega, Khunti is the cradle of hockey in Jharkhand. An international quality turf will ensure that budding hockey players get the necessary infrastructure to make the cut in national and international levels. We have Nikki Pradhan from Khunti who played Olympics and will have many such players in coming years,” Hockey Jharkhand president Bhola Nath Singh said.
