Jaipur: Jaipur boy Fareed Andrabi is the new sub-junior national squash champion. At the recently concluded Sub-Junior and Junior National Squash Championships in Mumbai, Fareed, a trainee at Rajasthan Squash Academy, claimed the gold medal in the under-11 boys' category defeating Ayan Dhanuka of Bengal 11-4, 11-8, 11-5 in the final. Another medal winner from Rajasthan was Avalokit Singh, who won the bronze medal in Under-17.
Fareed defeated Aryan Prabhu of Tamil Nadu 4-11, 11-9, 11-1, 8-11, 11-9 in the quarterfinals and Vedanta Agarwal of Jharkhand 11-8, 11-8, 13 in the semifinals.
Avalokit defeated Karan Yadav of
Uttar Pradesh 11-8, 12-10, 12-10 in the quarterfinals to reach the semis but there he lost 3-11, 6-11 to top seed Rohan Arya Gondi of Telangana. Avalokit is also a trainee at Rajasthan Squash Academy.
Surbhi Misra, the academy's director and former international player, said that the trainees of the academy have won many medals at the national level during the last four years. tnn
