Shatrughan Sinha at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, could not see his directorial venture on big screen ‘Doctor Bezbarua 2’, a sequel of his 1969 blockbuster, hit the theaters.
His another movie ‘Lankakanda’, directed by Rajani Barman, is scheduled to be released in cinemas on Friday. Goswami had shared screen with
Amitabh Bachchan in 1976 Hindi movie ‘Do Anjaane.’
Goswami holds a special connection with Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. In his 1984 blockbuster ‘Kokadeuta Naati Aru Haati’, he played the role of ‘kokadeuta’ (grandfather) and a young Sarma was the naati (grandson).
Born in 1942 to an actor father and a singer mother in Assam’s Tezpur, Goswami wanted to be a cricketer but later shifted his interest to films. At the age of 13, he debuted as a child actor in the movie ‘Piyoli Phukan’ directed by Phani Sarma in 1955. In the movie “Dr Bezbarua”, directed by Brojen Barua and released in 1969, Goswami played the lead role which gave him recognition as an actor. Thereafter, he did not look back.
Apart from acting in Assamese movies, he played different roles in seven Hindi movies and a few Bengali films, including ‘Tushartirtha Amarnath’ and ‘Debanjali’. He also worked with famous Bollywood actor Ashish Vidyarthi
Goswami, who is known as Nipon da, also shared screen with Bollywood actor Sayaji Shinde and Raveena Tandon in the Hindi movie “Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence” released in 2001 and with Gulshan Grover in the movie ‘18.11’ released in 2014. He had also dominated the mobile theatre stage and won hearts of millions through his acting.
