Girl found injured in Kannauj is recuperating, claim police
Kanpur: A 12-year-old girl who had left the house on Dhanteras for shopping and was later found with serious injuries near Dak Bungalow in Kannauj, is recovering and her wounds are showing signs of healing, police said on Wednesday.
The family members of the girl had suspected sexual assault, but the police said that the medical report has ruled out the same.
“The girl undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kanpur is showing signs of recovery. The girl’s wounds in head and face are showing signs of healing, though as per the doctors, it will take some time to heal completely,” said inspector Kotwali Raj Kumar Singh, adding, “We have registered an FIR under relevant IPC sections and POCSO Act and identified one among the perpetrators of the crime and raids are underway to make his arrest possible.”
The girl had gone out to purchase a ‘gullak’ (piggy bank) on October 23 but did not return home after which her family members launched a search for her.
Later, a purported video of the incident wherein, a girl could be seen lying and raising her hand for help, went viral on social media. Later, a policeman is seen carrying the injured girl to an autorickshaw to take her to the hospital while bystanders are recording videos on their mobile phones.
On the girl’s treatment, the inspector said about Rs 50,000 is needed every day and her father could only deposit Rs 2.5 lakh. Later, Rs 7 lakh was collected with the help of locals. He also said that medical report has ruled out sexual assault on the girl.
Meanwhile, superintendent of police (SP), Kunwar Anupam Singh said the police will ensure the best treatment for the girl, who is not in a condition to give a statement yet.
“However, going by the CCTV footage, wherein the minor was seen talking to a youth, we have identified the latter and are in the process of making his arrest possible. Three teams have been formed and raids are underway to make the arrest of the identified youth possible,” said SP further.
