Kanpur: The Hindu community of the city observed govardhan pooja on Wednesday instead of October 25, 2022. As per the custom govardhan pooja is observed on the very next day of Amavasya which is Deepawali day but due to the solar eclipse, Tuesday was not calculated according to panchang calculation. Due to the solar eclipse ‘sutak’ was observed by the community from 3.30 a.m and none offered any pooja till the completion of the eclipse.
Since hindu calculation is based on sunrise, the govardhan pooja was observed on Wednesday. This festival has a great religious significance among Hindus and is celebrated Lord Krishna devotees with geat zeal. It is also observed as ‘Padwa’ or pratipada in some parts of the country.On this auspicious day Lord Krishna had lifted ‘govardhan parvat’ on his little finger to save the villagers from heavy rains.
As per custom ladies use cow dung to make religious drawing on the floor and offer prayer to Lord Krishna in the morning. In fact Pratipada tithi had begun at 4.18 p.m on October 25 and it ended on October 26,at 2.42 p.m.
Now Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on October 27,2022. This festival is celebrated on the second day (Dwitiya) of the Deepawali festival. In fact Dwitiya began at 2.42 p.m. on Wednesday and it will end on Thursday at 12.45 pm. Majority of hindus will celebrate it on Thursday. This festival is celebrated by brothers and sisters. It marks the end of five day long Deepawali festival. It is similar to Raksha Bhandhan in which sisters apply vermilion tilak on the forehead of their brothers and pray for his long life.
