KOLKATA: A resident of east Kolkata ended up losing Rs 1 lakh while trying to track her food through a popular food delivery app during the festive season a few days ago. The customer care number of the eatery she had called up turned out to be fake.
The complainant, Chandraboli Chakraborty (35), said she was trying to track her order so that she could complete her payment formalities. "Whenever I tried using the app, it showed an error. Hence, I decided to call the food outlet. I came across a number through Google search and called up. The person asked me to share my card details for an advance payment. I followed as directed but soon realized that I had lost close to Rs 1 lakh from my two accounts," she said in her complaint.
The Bidhannagar Police's cyber cell is investigating the case after lodging a case of fraud.
