Ex-IAS officer held for attack on neighbour over property dispute
Jaipur: The Nagaur police on Wednesday arrested a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer on a charge of organising an attack on a family living in his neighbourhood over a bitter property dispute in which an elderly woman sustained firearm wounds.
DSP (Makrana) Raviraj Singh said that the accused Rohtash Singh, a resident of Gurgaon. “The property dispute over the property in Peelwa in Nagaur has been going on for the past several years now,” he said.
The Nagaur police in a statement on Wednesday claimed to have arrested the retired IAS officer of the Haryana cadre from the district’s Parbatsar area.
According to the police, nearly a dozen goons on October 21 had barged into the property of a family and ransacked their house before opening fire. An elderly woman was severely wounded in the firing and was transported to JLN hospital in Ajmer for treatment. The woman’s family in their FIR to the police also alleged that the accused had thrashed them too.
The Nagaur police said that an FIR was registered including IPS Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 384 (extortion) and arms act. The police claimed that they had constituted a special team to examine the role of different suspects and to track them down. A quick reaction team (QRT) was dispatched to hunt down the former official after reportedly collecting “field intelligence.” The Nagaur police said that Singh was detained and then interrogated through “psychological methods” during which the former IAS reported to have admitted that he sent 10 to 12 goons to attack the family. tnn
