Kodanad case: CB-CID DGP visits estate
Coimbatore: A team led by Mohammed Shakeel Akhtar, director general of police, Crime Branch-CID, visited the Kodanad estate in the Nilgiris on Wednesday to investigate the murder cum heist case.
They held an inquiry with the estate management on the day, when the DGP also inspected the place where security guard Om Bahadur was killed by the men who broke into the property.
According to sources, the team would camp in the district to continue the investigation in the coming days.
The murder and burglary took place at the estate bungalow, which was jointly owned by former chief minister the late J Jayalalithaa and her close aide V K Sasikala, on April 23, 2017.
The Nilgiris police completed the investigation of the case in November 2017 and charges were framed against the suspects in 2019. After the DMK came to power in 2021, a special team led by inspector general of police (West zone) R Sudhakar carried out a further probe.
Earlier this month, the case was transferred to the CB-CID to expedite the investigation. CB-CID sleuths had visited the bungalow on October 22 as well.
