With no docus, GCZMA fails to raze structure
Calangute: Officials of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) on Wednesday were unable to carry out the demolition of an allegedly illegal portion of a popular beachside restaurant in Calangute after they could not produce the relevant documents as demanded by the owners.
GCZMA officials were accompanied by the district magistrate and Calangute police. GCZMA had on earlier occasions also visited the site to raze the allegedly illegal portion built in the CRZ no-development zone, but could not carry out the demolition.
The owner of the restaurant said GCZMA’s repeated attempts to demolish the allegedly illegal portion is being done at the behest of some politicians. “This is nothing but harassment because they want us to leave the place,” he said.
The owner, had in the past, said the owner of a neighbouring property was allegedly pressuring the authorities to demolish part of his property. He said every time GCZMA officials come to carry out the demolition they are unable to produce the relevant documents.
