Guwahati: Cyclone Sitrang continued to disrupt flight operations in the northeast with at least seven flights being cancelled on Tuesday due to adverse weather conditions. The airports in
Shillong and Aizawl have been the worst-affected.
Six flights connecting Shillong with Silchar, Dibrugah and Kolkata were cancelled. Another flight from Aizawl to Shillong was also cancelled due to poor visibility.
“IndiGo cancelled all flights operated to and from Shillong airport due to bad weather. The weather in Kolkata was also not favourable for flying one aircraft to Shillong early in the morning,” said an Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokesperson.
On Monday, seven flights connecting Agartala with Kolkata and other destinations in the northeast region were cancelled. The AAI sources, however, said there was no report of flight cancellation from Agartala on Tuesday, where the maximum impact of the cyclone was expected by the authorities.
“From Tuesday evening, there has been no alert for the air routes. All flights are flying as per schedule in the northeast,” said the AAI official. The IMD said party cloudy sky will prevail in the northeast till Wednesday.
The Northeast Frontier Railway said there was no impact of weather on rail routes on Tuesday.
