Elections to the BMC will be held in January, said CM Eknath Shinde at his residence Varsha on Tuesday, even as earlier in the day, his deputy Devendra Fadnavis said, "only God and the courts know when the BMC elections will be held,".
Fadnavis made his comments to mediapersons invited for Diwali. Asked about the delay in BMC elections and whether they would be held in December this year or January 2003, Fadnavis said he was unable to tell as it was the EC and courts that would decide. READ MORE
AQI 'very poor' a day after Diwali in Mumbai, worst in 8 months

Diwali: 14 burn victims in 24 hours after explosion of crackers
The National Burns Centre (NBC) in Airoli treated 14 cases of burn injuries in the last 24 hours, all caused by the explosion of flowerpot crackers (anar). The only dedicated burns hospital in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region said they expect the number of injuries to rise further as cases from far-off districts continue to arrive a fortnight after Diwali.
City's civic and state-run hospitals, however, saw fewer Diwali injuries compared to the previous years. JJ Hospital, which usually treats at least half a dozen cases during Diwali, saw two injuries that were treatable on an outpatient basis.
