GURUGRAM: An Iraqi couple was allegedly robbed of 15,000 US dollars near a hotel by two miscreants posing as cops on Sunday.
The victims, Nada Ali Salman and her husband Faris Abbas had come to the city for the latter’s treatment, police said. They were staying in a hotel in Sector 39, near the private hospital where Abbas was being treated.
When the couple came out of the hotel where they are staying, two men in a car impersonating as police stopped the victims.
“Both came out of the car and asked us to produce our documents. One of them asked my husband to show his bag which had money. However, my husband refused at first, but they snatched the bag and said they suspect that we are hiding drugs. After taking the bag from us, they fled,” Salman stated in her complaint.
The complainant also mentioned that they ran behind the speeding car, but it didn’t help.
On the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been registered against the unidentified men under sections 379 (theft), 420 (cheating) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Gurugram Sadar police station. “We are investigating the case and trying to identify the accused with the help of CCTV footage from the nearby areas. The accused will be arrested soon,” investigation officer Dharam Singh said.
