Mumbai: Aedes breeding sites found in Salman Khan's housing society

Following news that actor Salman Khan has been down with dengue, a team of the BMC insecticide department visited his home in Bandra to check for mosquito breeding spots.Apart from flats in Khan's Galaxy Apartments, six other buildings were inspected along the same road.

The BMC found aedes breeding sites at two spots in Khan's housing society compound. These were found in two odd articles.

However, no notice has been served as officials said that it is not advisable to give notice in such cases but preventive measures should be taken.

Worli was less polluted than several suburbs

The city recorded an AQI of 305 post-noon on Tuesday with the major contributors to air pollution being the suburbs of Malad (AQI of 388), Andheri (363), Chembur (322), Mazgaon (310), and BKC (307). Areas such as Borivli (252), Colaba (215), and Bhandup (162) were moderately polluted to poor, while the air quality in Worli (58) was satisfactory.

Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said the ruling BJP and Shiv Sena faction led by chief minister Eknath Shinde will contest some of the civic polls separately and others in alliance.

Notably, CM Shinde had in August said the "original" Shiv Sena and the BJP will contest the forthcoming elections to civic bodies in Maharashtra together. He had claimed that the led by him represents the "original" Shiv Sena.The elections are due in various civic bodies in the state, including the cash-rich Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Fadnavis meets Maharashtra CM Shinde to extend Diwali greetings

Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis called on Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to extend greetings on the festival of Diwali. The two leaders met late Tuesday night at the CM's official residence 'Varsha' in south Mumbai in the backdrop of BJP leader Fadnavis's comment earlier in the day that the state cabinet would be expanded soon.

The deputy CM was accompanied by his wife Amruta Fadnavis when he met Shinde at his residence where the CM's parliamentarian son Shrikant Shinde was also present.

Shinde had visited Gadchiroli district earlier on Tuesday to celebrate Diwali with police personnel stationed in the remote Bhamragad area to fight Maoists.

MUMBAI: As the state government is struggling to supply its much-touted Diwali ration kits containing one kilogram of rawa, edible oil, yellow lentils and sugar for Rs 100 across the state, Cabinet minister Deepak Kesarkar said that Diwali is celebrated till Tulsi Vivah, so the kits will reach people before that. While Laxmi Poojan, the main celebration of Diwali was on Monday, Tusli Vivah is on November 5.

Elections to the BMC will be held in January, said CM Eknath Shinde at his residence Varsha on Tuesday, even as earlier in the day, his deputy Devendra Fadnavis said, "only God and the courts know when the BMC elections will be held,".

Diwali: 14 burn victims in 24 hours after explosion of crackers

The National Burns Centre (NBC) in Airoli treated 14 cases of burn injuries in the last 24 hours, all caused by the explosion of flowerpot crackers (anar). The only dedicated burns hospital in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region said they expect the number of injuries to rise further as cases from far-off districts continue to arrive a fortnight after Diwali.

City's civic and state-run hospitals, however, saw fewer Diwali injuries compared to the previous years. JJ Hospital, which usually treats at least half a dozen cases during Diwali, saw two injuries that were treatable on an outpatient basis.

Mumbai records 32 new Covid-19 cases, zero death; active tally drops below 800

MUMBAI: Mumbai on Tuesday recorded 32 new cases of coronavirus, raising the overall tally to 11,53,502, while no fresh death linked to the infection was registered in the metropolis, the local civic body said. The death toll remained unchanged at 19,738. The city has reported less than 100 Covid-19 cases on the second consecutive day after 53 on Monday. A bulletin issued by the civic body said the city currently has 798 active cases.
