Mysuru: The Sri Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi Hill will remain closed for devotees from 1pm on Tuesday owing to solar eclipse. The devotees can visit the temple until 1pm and the doors will be closed for special rituals. The priests will perform puja and clean the temple after the eclipse. The Hasanamba temple, which opened on October 13, will remain closed for the day on Tuesday due to the eclipse. However, the temple will close for the year on October 27. The temple opens only once a year during the annual festival. Meanwhile, various events have been organised where enthusiasts can watch the partial solar eclipse.
Brindavan Gardens reopens to visitorsMandya: The Brindavan Gardens inKrishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam has been reopened to tourists. The gates were locked after a leopard was spotted at the tourist site on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday morning, forest personnel led by Mandya assistant conservator of forests (ACF) Mahadevaswamy inspected the spot where the leopard was spotted in the gardens. The ACF said there is no sign of the leopard movement in the area, and that they suggested Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd (CNNL) to reopen the tourist spot. Based on the report, CNNL staff discussed the issue with senior officials and revoked the ban imposed on tourists. As a precaution, the authorities have kept a cage at the place where the leopard was sighted, hoping to rescue the big cat if it gets trapped.
Rally held to mark World Polio Day
Mysuru: Rotary Mysore North organised a public awareness rally on vaccination drive to eradicate polio to commemorate World Polio Day in Mysore on Monday. The rally was flagged off by district health officer (DHO) Dr KH Prasad on Rangayana Road in the city. The DHO said the Union government has taken necessary measures to eradicate polio completely in the country as cases were detected in Pakistan, Nigeria and other countries. He hailed the contributions of Rotary clubs and the involvement of other non-government organisations for the eradication of polio. Collaboration of privare agencies will help supplement the efforts of the government, which has been pressing for the eradication of the disease from the map of India.
