India's Home Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Shah today held a meeting with party leaders from Gujarat's Saurashtra region for several hours to formulate strategy for the upcoming state assembly polls.

The meeting, held at Veraval in Gir Somnath district, focussed on BJP's efforts to not repeat the dismal performance of 2017 in the region, which accounts for 48 out of 182 seats in the assembly, party sources told PTI.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Gujarat BJP President C R Patil also attended the meeting, along with present and former elected representatives, as office- bearers and senior leaders from the region.

BJP had won 99 seats in 2017 election, dragged down by a poor show in Saurashtra, where it won 20 seats out of 48.

Shah has been conducting marathon meetings at the zone level and this was the fourth such meeting in as many days as the ruling BJP party aims to secure 150 seats in the elections, higher than the record 149 seats won by the Congress in 1985.

The BJP veteran has also participated in meetings of south, central and north zones of the state at Valsad, Vadodara and Palanpur earlier.
