11 incidents of fire reported in Thane on Diwali night

THANE: As many as 11 incidents of minor fire, mostly triggered due to cracker bursting were reported to Thane civic rescue teams till Monday late evening.
A bird net installed on window of a Kalwa building caught fire after coming in contact with a stray lighted cracker while in seperate incidents in Thane city, two trees suffered minor damage after they caught fire due to fireworks among others, informed Avinash Sawant, chief at the regional disaster management cell at Thane. No one injured in any of the incidents
Meanwhile, the noise levels in Hiranandani Meadows and Hiranandani Estate areas of Thane have recorded 90-98dB, Monday night, informed anti-noise activist Dr Mahesh Bedekar. Naupada area recorded maximum 110-115 dB, Monday morning, said Dr Bedekar.
Incidentally, few political parties had organized cultural events in the area.
Dr Bedekar said the noise levels in the morning were mainly due to speakers installed by organisers of cultural events in various parts of city while crackers dominated the cause for noise levels after late evening, he said.
Meanwhile, nearly 300 students took oath as anti-noise crusaders at an event held by few activists and academicians from Thane, Sunday morning. The children would attempt to educate their relatives and neighbours about the perils of noise and sound pollution caused by crackers, said Surendra Dighe, an academician from Thane.
