Kanpur: Former President Ram Nath Kovind's house in Maharishi Dayanand Vihar sold to a doctor couple.
The property is believed to have been purchased by Dr Sharad Katiyar, an owner of a private hospital in Bilhaur and a Kalyanpur resident.
Sources said that former President Ram Nath Kovind had bought a HIG house in Dayanand Vihar in Kalyanpur 25 years ago when he was practising as a lawyer in the Kanpur court. Later, he built a house in an area of 286 square metre.
The ground floor of the house consists of a hall, three rooms, a kitchen, a toilet and a lawn besides a room on the first floor. Kovind stayed here for a long time with his family.
The house has now been bought by Dr Sharad Katiyar, a permanent native of Tajpur village in Bangarmau tehsil of Unnao in the name of his wife Dr Shreeti Bala Katiyar.
Dr Sharad is an anaesthetist while his wife Dr Shreeti is a gynaecologist.
Presently Dr Sharad lives with his family in Kanha Shyam Apartment located in Kalyanpur and runs a hospital--Shreesh Hospital in Bilhaur.
The doctor couple did not reveal about the amount at which they had purchased the house.
Dr Sharad however said that after coming to know that the President is about to sell his house, he went to Delhi and met him at his residence in Delhi. "After this, he gave power of attorney to caretaker Anand Kumar. On Friday, Anand transferred the house to his wife," Dr Sharad said.
They consider themselves lucky that the President had agreed to sell his house to them, said the doctor couple. “It's not simply a house, but a memorable heritage”, they said. The former President inquired about Kanpur during the meeting. He asked who are the MLAs in Bilhaur and Kalyanpur, Dr Sharad further said.
