CHENNAI: The number of new Covid-19 cases in
Tamil Nadu continues to decline, with 206 people testing positive on Monday.
Chennai repored the maximum number of fresh cases (51), followed by Chengalpet (20) and Coimbatore (11). While Chennai had a Test Positivity Rate (TPR) of 2%, which is almost on par with the state's average, the other two districts had a higher TPR. Except for Kallakurichi, Mayiladuthurai, Nilgiris and Thirupathur, all other districts in the state reported new infections.
A brisk hospital discharge rate has helped the state in bringing down the number of active cases to 3,124. It was around 5,500 at the start of the month. Besides, only around 7% patients (248) needed hospitalisation, while others with mild symptoms like cold or fever are in home isolation. Among those under hospital care, 110 were admitted to oxygen-supported and 30 were in Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
There were no deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, leaving the state's death toll unchanged at 38,048.
