GUDEBALLUR, MAKTHAL: No force can stop the Bharat Jodo yatra which is aimed at uniting all sections of society by fighting against hatred, unemployment and inflation, said Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday.
Addressing a street corner meeting in Telangana's Gudeballur village as he entered the state, Rahul said that he'll strive to keep all communities together even as the BJP and RSS try to divide the nation on religious lines.
"Bharat Jodo Yatra is against their ideology. We want a united India. We want employment for everyone," he said stressing that the yatra wasn't aimed with only political purpose but to unite the country.
Earlier in the day, the Congress MP was given a rousing reception with thousands of party workers and people thronging the bridge constructed during the Nizam era on Krishna River. The bridge connects Telangana and Karnataka with Gudeballur village of Narayanpet district on the Telangana side and Devasugur village in Raichur district in Karnataka state. There was a mad rush as people tried to catch a glimpse of the Nehru-Gandhi scion with a near stampede-like situation prevailing for almost an hour.
People queued up from 5 am and cheered his arrival. They vied with each other to walk along with him. The nearly five km stretch in Gudeballur village resembled a sea of humanity as Congress cadres from Karnataka, who followed him into Telangana, added to the large crowd. While some senior leaders such as A Revanth Reddy and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy along with thousands of youngsters matched his speed to walk along, several other senior leaders were left behind. Local residents too came out of their houses and stood on the road. They cheered as he passed by with huge crowds following him.
Rahul Gandhi entered Telangana at 8.45 am marking the completion of his Karnataka-leg of the walkathon. He was welcomed in Telangana by TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka, Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy, senior leaders V Hanumanth Rao, Madhu Yashki Goud, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Alleti Maheshwar Reddy, Mahesh Kumar Goud, D Anasuya (Seethakka) and J Geetha Reddy among others. The hour-long padayatra will resume on Thursday after a three-day break. Later, Rahul Gandhi in a tweet stated: “Thank you Telangana for such a warm welcome to the Bharat Jodo Yatra”. In another tweet, he said: “A river of love is flowing through India, rekindling the hope for progress and prosperity.”
