Two killed, one injured in three accidents across Kolkata

KOLKATA: Two pedestrians were killed and one was severely wounded in three accidents between Sunday afternoon and Saturday evening.
On Sunday afternoon, a 63-year-old Golaghata Road resident was killed when she was hit by a private bus on route 91 at the RG Kar Road and Raja Dinendra Street crossing. The accident happened around 1.45pm when the woman, Shipra Majumdar, was trying to cross the road. She was hit on her head as she fell in a pool of blood. Cops immediately took her to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival by an attending doctor. Police seized the bus, but the driver managed to escape.
Earlier in the afternoon, a woman in her 40s was run over by a government bus on the Shyambazar-Malancha route at the crossing of Basanti Highway and East Topsia Road. The woman, whose identity couldn't be ascertained till late on Sunday, was taken to NRS Medical College and Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival by a doctor. Officers of Pragati Maidan police station have seized the bus and are trying to establish the woman's identity.
On Saturday evening, Harendra Ram (45) was hit by a mini-truck on Chowbhaga Road near Basanti Highway. Ram, a resident of Bihar, was taken to SSKM Hospital by cops, from where he was released after treatment. The mini-truck was seized and its driver was arrested.
