MYSURU: The Mysuru police on Monday seized a large amount of ganja and arrested four persons. They have launched a hunt for three other suspects including two women.
This is the biggest ever haul of seizure in the history of Mysuru city, police said.
A total of 46 kilos and six hundred grams of cannabis were confiscated in two separate cases. Three youths including two native of neighbouring Kodagu district and one from Mysuru were caught red-handed with five kilos and six hundreds of ganja inside a car on October 22 while a raid on the house on CV road in Mandi Mohalla police limits helped police to unearth large amount of ganja of 41 kilos stored in the house.
An officer said the ganja that was seized from the house of a 25-year-old youth's residence was of fine quality and supposedly has been smuggled from north and north eastern states. It would fetch anywhere between Rs 60-70k per kg for the seller given its quality, he said.
The ganja is smuggled in goods vehicles carrying vegetables, fruits, and other items. They are smuggled keeping them inside heavy loads of daily supplies and possibly difficult to identify, he noted.
The seizure of a heavy amount of drugs has certainly worried the Mysuru cops. Police have taken the matter seriously and are probing the matter to track the links. Police are also checking whether Mysuru is being used as a transit point for illegal drug business.
The youth arrested in this case is a known offender who has similar pending cases against him. Two other known women, who too are ganja offenders, are on the run. These women have earlier helped to sell the drug locally.
The arrest of three others for the first time too is being looked into seriously, the officer stated.
City Crime Branch Assistant Commissioner of Police CK Ashwathnarayan led the investigation team including inspector A Mallesh.
