Sikar jeweller brothers robbed of cash & jewellery worth ₹13L
Jaipur: Two jeweller brothers returning home after closing their shops were beaten up and robbed by at least five armed men near Bhadwasi road under Udyog Nagar police station area in Sikar on Saturday night. The robbers decamped with cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs 13 lakh, leaving the two brothers injured.
According to police, Amit Soni (32) and Ankit Soni (35) attacked when they were returning home in a car after the Dhanteras prayers at their shop. “They were carrying a bag containing cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs 13 lakh. Since it is considered auspicious to keep all the jewellery meant for business at the Diwali prayer place, they were taking all the jewellery home. When they reached Bhadwasi road, two of the five robbers pelted stones at their car, stopped it and grabbed the two jewellers,” said a police officer of Udyog Nagar police station.
The two brothers resisted the robbery attempt, but they were badly beaten up. The robbers snatched their bag containing cash and jewellery and fled. “As the robbers were fleeing in their vehicles, the two brothers pelted stones at their vehicles, but the robbers managed to escape,” added the officer.
A team of police officers rushed to the spot soon after the incident and took stock of the situation. “It appears the accused had done a recce prior to the robbery. We have got CCTV footages of nearby roads, markets and highways. Efforts are on to know the vehicle in which the robbers fled and to arrest them,” the officer added.
Preliminary investigations suggested that the robbers could be part of an organised gang. “They did not take much time in looting. When the two jeweller brothers resisted the robbery bid, both were thrashed. Such modus operandi suggests the accused were part of an organised robbery gang,” said a senior police officer.
