Students get new clothes on Diwali
Tirupur: Members of Government School Students’ Welfare (GSSW) on Sunday distributed new garments to as many as 130 students of government schools in Vellakoil region here to celebrate Diwali.
The children were either orphans or being raised by a single parent, said GSSW founder G Prabhakar, also headmaster of the Panchayat Union Primary School at Silabakkavundanvalasu. “They used to tell me that they could not afford new garments for festivals. So, I found several philanthropists, who were willing to help these children.”
V Karuna, a Class VI student of Panchayat Union Middle School in Vellakoil, said the dress looks stunning. He had shifted to Tirupur from Namakkal recently with widowed mother and sister.
Meanwhile, Ini Oru Vidhi Seivom Trust in Tirupur distributed clothes, sweets and gifts for 60 special children and disabled students of Avinashi Government School and Aranmanaipudur Corporation School. The trust also distributed 700 new garments with the help of the Namma Kovai Forum in Coimbatore. NGO Restoring Nature distributed clothes to the students of Mettupalayam Municipal Higher Secondary School.TNN
